An ontology integrating as-built information for infrastructure asset management using BIM and semantic web

Abstract: The as-built information is rarely stored in a structured, machine-readable, and model-based way. Semantically enriched IFC models can help to achieve vendor-neutral storage and processing of information from the construction phase. This paper analyses exemplarily the documentation of concreting during construction and specifies the Building Concrete Monitoring (BCOM) ontology using ABox statements for concreting and laboratory testing. Utilizing the ICDD, a container is created to capture the information about concreting with semantic web technology and to link this information with the IFC-based building model. The feasibility of this approach is evaluated in a specific use-case with a web-based platform implementation.
