Workshop Title: Using Solar Analysis to Drive Building Design
Presenter
Lilli Smith
Presenter’s Title
Sr. Product Manager, AEC Generative Design
Your Current Affiliation
Autodesk Inc.
Biography of Presenter
Lilli Smith, AIA, Sr. Product Manager for AEC Generative Design is an architect with a passion for re-envisioning the way that buildings are designed. After working for several years as an architect, she joined Revit Technology as a fledgling start up and helped grow it to where it is today in almost every architect’s tool box. She has gone on to work on many Autodesk tools including Vasari, FormIt, Dynamo, Project Fractal and Project Refinery which recently graduated from beta to a new suite of tools included in Revit 2021 and 2022.
Description of Presentation
Learn about generative design thinking and build multi-objective design workflows in a Revit project! A parametric model contains many possible design states and configurations. How can we navigate this vast landscape of possibilities to find high-performing designs? How can we use environmental analysis like solar analysis to drive building design? This workshop will introduce workflows that help us answer such a question using Dynamo and the new Generative Design in Revit functionality, an Autodesk tool for design option generation, search, optimization and sharing. The workshop will start out with an introduction to generative design concepts and then go into a demo of how tools like Solar Analysis can be used to drive building massing design. Participants who download and install the software can follow along.
Learning Objectives
After this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Describe what is required for a generative design workflow,
- Describe how solar analysis can be used to drive building massing design,
- Perform a generative design study with a provided sample model.
