9:15 – 10:00 Academic session Introduction to AI in construction industry Brief about:

  • Digitalization in construction (How this affects the way we design, compute and asses building performances)
  • Introduction to AI methods that can be used in assessing building energy performances
  • How building performance analysis contributes to sustainability
10:15 – 11:00 Academic session Presentation of some AI-based project examples that are already conducted


11:15 – 12:00 Mixed session
  • Introduction to EPC open data: what it is, how reliable it is, and how it can be used for building energy assessment.
  • Introduction to Data gathering, cleaning and analysis processes.
  • Hands-on Exercises on CENED database.
13:00 – 15:15 Hands on session Exercises:

  • Data preparation and preprocessing.
  • Clustering of building assets.
  • Building an ANN model from scratch.
  • Graphic presentation of data and results.


Instructor’s Biography:

Fulvio Re Cecconi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture, Built Environment, and Construction Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He is a leading researcher and expert in building technology and construction management, with research interests in Asset Management, Whole Life cycle Performance of Building, Building stock retrofit, and Project Risk Management. Currently, he is exploring opportunities for built environment digitalization and Artificial Intelligence application for asset management. He also has a rich professional background as a construction project manager, planning director, and construction safety manager. After 15 years of professional experience in the industry, he returned to academia to share his unparalleled knowledge and experience with the young generation as a professor in building technology, project management, and operation and maintenance management tracks. He is the author of hundreds of publications in accredited journals and conferences, which have received massive recognition from international academic communities.
