Inductive Theorization of Construction Digital Twins: Deriving A Taxonomy of Applications and Enabling Technologies
DOI: 10.35490/EC3.2024.203
Abstract: Digital twin implementations during the construction phase of built assets—Construction Digital Twin (CDT)—encounter greater challenges compared to other phases due to the dynamic evolving nature of construction sites and their diverse range of applications. Essential for improving our understanding of the CDT domain is providing a clear taxonomy of its existing applications and enabling technologies and establishing how the architecture and attributes of CDT vary across different applications. To date, this objective has not been fulfilled in the existing literature and is addressed in this paper through an approach combining systematic review, thematic coding, and conceptualization of a CDT architecture.
