Abstract: The digitalization of the construction industry through BIM and CDE raises security and privacy concerns as sensitive data is stored in cloud environments. It is critical to address these concerns related to CDE and provide guidelines and recommendations for users. The paper provides an overview of security and privacy mechanisms at multiple levels that should be implemented in BIM, including data and network security, identity and access management, physical security, and compliance with standards. We examine ISO 19650-5 and recommend a direction to improve BIM related guidelines in order to help users identify potential concerns in their chosen cloud environment.
