Abstract: Automated layout generation can improve interior designs by suggesting constraint-compliant design alternatives. Persistent issues relate to intuitive and explainable constraint formulation and efficiency of layout search that result in highly compliant, diverse alternatives. This paper proposes a domain-specific language for rule representation and evaluation, along with a continuous layout-configuration search, Jump Search. The proposed method is compared against a previous grid-based layout search method and a Simulated Annealing approach, under rule-based evaluation budgets for different room-type scenarios. Our experimental results demonstrate that Jump Search is able to generate higher-quality layouts more efficiently, while also exploring a larger variety of layouts.
