Review of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Use for Cost Estimation in Construction Projects

Abstract: Cost estimation is crucial in construction project management that influences project success. Machine learning and artificial intelligence methods have recently emerged as efficient tools in construction project cost estimation due to their ability to generate accurate predictions. This study presents a systematic literature review on the application of ML and AI methods in construction cost estimation based on PRISMA method using 75 publications. The review provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research, including data collection, project characteristics and predictive models. This study enhances understanding of ML and AI in construction cost estimation, aiding decision-makers and researchers in developing accurate models.
