Abstract: Accurate material quantification is essential for circular construction and urban material management. This paper presents a novel method for automating BIM generation from 3D city models (CityGML LOD 3) to assess material quantities. Exterior elements are converted into BIM for precise material takeoff, while interior materials are estimated using a bottom-up approach. A case study in Belgrade demonstrates the method’s reliability, particularly for older buildings. By enhancing automation and scalability, this GIS-to-BIM workflow improves accuracy in urban material stock assessment.
