Abstract: Fast decision-making is crucial in the construction indus-try, particularly when responding to deviations during the building process. A building information model (BIM) may be used to facilitate decision-making as it should accurately reflect the construction site’s current state. This paper outlines a data acquisition framework, based on lean principles for construction progress control. The BIM is abstracted to “critical surfaces” based on information on the schedule, which is then compared with the surface reconstructed from the acquired point cloud data using the RANSAC algorithm. Integrating the resulting data back into the BIM provides reliable construction site information.
